The Next Big Thing

Fellow Author, JL Mac tagged me for The Next Big Thing where you chat about what you're working on. Thanks to JL for including me! Check out what I've been working on.

What is the working title of your book?

I just published Mending. I can't yet reveal the title of my next book. It's a surprise. :)

Where did the idea come from for the book?

Mending is the sequel to Broken and the second book of the This Trilogy. While I had a general idea of where I wanted to go in Mending after I finished Broken, the twists and turns that come in Mending came to me one day on my way to the library to write. I just had a moment where all of these thoughts flooded my brain. It was definitely an "ah ha" moment. I couldn't wait to get inside and at least jot down in my notebook where I wanted things to go with the plot.

Most of the rest of the ideas for scenes and things were just made up out of thin air. I just kept trying to think of how I could keep my reader interested and surprised.

There were a few scenes that beta readers told me I needed to strengthen. I would have never thought of doing what they suggested. But, when I heard the idea I knew I had to take it and run with it. Those scenes turned out to be some of my favorites.

What genre does your book fall under?

Contemporary Romance

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

Gabby has finally started to break down the walls she has worked so hard to build up from all of the heartache she has felt through the years, just as ghosts from Bradley's past begin to show themselves.

Will your book be self-published?

Yes

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

I actually didn't count this time. I think it was around 40 days.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

Hmm, I don't particularly like to compare. I found Gabriel's Inferno inspiring.

Who or what inspired you to write this book?

Ultimately, it was Fifty Shades of Grey that got me reading again. That led me to other books and there are several that helped me get the idea to write my books. I find a lot of inspiration through music and past events in my life. It's fun to twist things around and just play make believe.

What else about your book might pique the reader's interest?

The book goes between the past and the present. The past lets you see how they got to the present situation. I love writing like this because I think it gives the reader so much more background information on the characters and why they are the way they are. I also love writing from multiple character's points of view. So, you don't just get insight into one person, you get multiple takes. Head over to www.goodreads.com and add
Broken
Mending
and Forgiven
to your to-read list.

Review: Under The Mistletoe With Me

Under The Mistletoe With Me Under The Mistletoe With Me by Kristen Proby
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Let me just say first that I lay claim on a Montgomery boy. I can't decide between Caleb or Matt, but I'm leaning towards Matt. I read this book in one sitting. I love that we got insight into the other characters mentioned in Come Away With Me. Just like Luke and Natalie, Isaac and Stacy have explosive chemistry. I found their relationship to be more realistic and one in which I could easily relate. I loved how having a baby wasn't sugar coated too much in this book. The stresses a baby brings for a couple, especially after what Isaac and Stacy have already been through, weigh heavily on even the strongest of marriages. Perhaps that is why I could relate so well to this book. I have been through similar struggles. I found myself tapping my Kindle to see how many more pages were left. I was dying to find out what what was making Stacy feel the way she was and also I wanted to know more about her cousin. I hope Kristen Proby will treat us to a thriller about what has brought her to Seattle. This is a read that made me have warm fuzzies. I found tears pricking the backs of my eyes as I read the last paragraph. It's wrapped up and tied with a nice bow just in time for Christmas. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I can't wait for the next books in the series. *I was provided with an advanced reading copy from the author for a fair and honest review*

Review: Overwhelm Me

Overwhelm Me Overwhelm Me by A.C. Marchman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I had the pleasure of being a beta reader for this AC Marchman's debut novel, Overwhelm Me. It's the first book of the Callahan Series. It's not often that a book can captivate me in the first few pages. I usually dread the first chapter of a book while I'm being fed loads of background information. But, Overwhelm Me captivated me from the very start. I could definitely relate to Allie. She is an overall likable character. She's had some bad experiences in her life, but she doesn't allow those to hold her back from reaching her dreams. She has devoted her life to helping others. After running late to a major final exam, she literally runs into Donovan Callahan. He's gorgeous, charming, and the chemistry is immediately equivalent to the pull of gravity. So flustered and LATE to her exam, she rushes away from him completely forgetting to find out who he is. A chance happening puts her in his arms again and they get to know each other better. Turns out that Allie isn't the only one with skeletons in the closet. Will they be able to get through their baggage together or will it drive them apart? I loved Overwhelm Me. I couldn't put it down and let me just say that AC can most certainly write some hot steamy smexy scenes. Add this book to your TBR shelf and buy it up when you get the chance on 12/31/2012. You will not be disappointed.

500 Fan Snippet from Mending

It was nice to see he was still having an effect on her. He wondered if she had any clue what kind of effect she was having on him?

She suddenly looked worried.

“What’s wrong, Gabby?”

She fidgeted and then glanced up to him. “I…” She paused. “Nothing.”

“No, tell me.” He pleaded.

“I need to know why you never did the whole relationship thing? Why such the playboy?” She whispered.

He shrugged and dropped his head and then looked back up to her. “Well, my dad always taught me to enjoy the ladies. My parents have a bit of a dysfunctional relationship, Gabby. I just have never wanted that.”

“And I just magically changed your mind about this?”

He ran his hands through his hair, “Yes. Most girls are quick to give themselves to me. You are different. You forced me to take a serious look at my lifestyle and the women I associate with.”

“I just find it hard to believe you could change so quickly.”

“I can’t explain it, Gabby. You’re going to just have to trust me. I never thought I would be this guy.” He shrugged his shoulders again, “But, here I am.”

The waitress brought the milkshake and placed it in front of Bradley and there were already two straws in it. How intuitive of her, he thought. He was thankful for the interruption, too. He desperately wanted to change the mood and the topic of conversation.

He pushed it to the center and gave her a daring look. Holding the straw to his mouth, his lips parted and he sucked his first sip, closing his eyes savoring the flavor. “Mmm,” he groaned.

“Chocolate and caramel are a weakness for me as it is.” Gabby squirmed. “Add you moaning over there while drinking it and that’s a lethal combination.” She giggled.

He didn’t move his head from the milkshake, but glanced up at her. His eyes were on fire with desire and his lips formed a smile around the straw, “Lethal, huh?”

“Yeah, it just solidified what I had been pondering for the last couple of days.”

He looked confused. Given what they had just discussed that could most definitely be a bad thing. His brows furrowed, “What’s that?”

She glanced down nervously and when she looked back up to him he could see the desire in her eyes. Her voice was low, seductive, and husky when she replied, “The very death of this stupid friendship idea. I can’t fight this anymore.”

Bradley almost choked on the milkshake. “Damn, don’t say things like that to me while I’m eating or drinking” He chuckled when he saw her look down embarrassed. “Or you’ll be the death of me. Gabby.”

She giggled, “Now, that would be tragic.”

“You have no idea. Want to get this food to go?”

Broken is $.99!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I enjoyed being able to spend some time with my family (they live out of town). I do feel like I need a vacation from my vacation now! :)

I was able to squeeze a two hour phone interview with Kim from Kindlehooked in on Wednesday night. They offered a giveaway yesterday for Black Friday and also posted some of what we discussed on their blog. It is linked above. I had so much fun talking about Gabby, Bradley, Broken, and Mending.

I also put Broken on sale yesterday for Black Friday at $.99. I had been ranked in the upper 4000's when I woke up yesterday morning. I spent the afternoon with my best friend from out of town and then we drove back home to Atlanta after that. I randomly checked to see how things were going on Amazon. The first time I checked, I was ranked 2800. The second time I checked, I was ranked 2300. When I got home, I was ranked 820 and in two top 100's (contemporary women and teen). I was so so so excited. That is the first time I've been in the top 1000 on Amazon (or ranked in the three digit range). The book will remain on sale through Cyber Monday and return to its regular price on Tuesday. If you haven't picked it up, get it from Amazon now!.

I decided last night that instead of making you all wait until Monday for the second chapter of Mending, I'd go ahead and post it to Wattpad AND on Monday I'm going to post chapter three!

Thank you so much for your support. It means the world to me. I am frantically trying to finish up Mending. Don't forget to tune in for the Broken Blog Tour Dec. 5-16. There will be lots of good stuff!

Book Three Title

I am so excited to announce today that book three of the This Trilogy has been named!

I was in the middle of writing Mending and I had a surge of thoughts come to me in a matter of minutes. It was really quite amazing. It reminded me why I love writing so much. I live for moments like that. But, as I was having this moment I was able to see the trilogy come full circle.

Book one is about Gabby and all the ways she is Broken. Someone who has been broken has been hurt and eventually you forgive those who caused you the pain, who broke you.

This Trilogy:

Broken (#1)
Mending (#2)
FORGIVEN (#3)

I do not have a release date yet, as I am frantically trying to finish Mending. Make sure to follow the blog or sign up on my website to get updates.
